Youngsters across the West Midlands have been showing off their artistic talents as the region’s tramway gears up for a landmark anniversary.
Last month, local primary school children were invited to submit designs for a special emblem that will feature prominently throughout the Metro’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, including on the side of trams.
Sophie Allison, West Midlands Metro Managing Director, explained: “We’ve already had a fantastic launch to the competition, and entries are starting to flow in.
“There’s also been a lot of interest from local primary schools, who will be on track to win £500 if the winning design comes from one of their pupils.”
As well as seeing their winning design on the side of trams, and on Metro merchandise, the winner, a few classmates, and a teacher will also be treated to an exclusive VIP behind-the-scenes tour of the Metro depot in Wednesbury.
To be in with a chance of winning the anniversary design competition, entries need to be submitted by participating schools, or parents by Monday, April 29. More details can be found on the Metro website here.
Sophie added: “On Thursday, May 30, it will be exactly a quarter of a century since trams returned to the streets of Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and we’re committed to putting children at the heart of our celebrations as we recognise the vital role they have to play in our future success.”
