We are proud to be giving back, and serving our communities!

West Midlands Metro is part of the MML, and we are committed to delivering a safe, secure, reliable, and sustainable tram network in the midlands.

We realise that it’s not all about ‘what’ we’re doing, it’s the ‘why’ too. We want to develop and grow our services to offer the midlands a better way of living and commuting, we want to offer connections. We want to reach out and really make the midlands a better place to live, work and travel, and help our residents to thrive.

We decided to give back and contribute to charitable causes!

We wanted to make a lasting difference, so we decided to begin ongoing support by bringing attention to, and raising funds for, as many invaluable causes as possible, and to do this successfully, we chose to organise a series of exciting fundraising events for a different charity each year!

As it’s all about uniting people, places and further opportunities, we wanted to get our colleagues involved too, by giving them the responsibility of choosing the yearly charity.

Acorns Children's Hospice

Our 2024 Charity of the Year!

Acorns Children’s Hospice has been named Charity of the Year for 2024, as voted for by colleagues at West Midlands Metro.

The charity is renowned for its specialised palliative care services for local children and families, offering various forms of support, including respite care, therapy, and bereavement assistance.

In the West Midlands alone, Acorns Children’s Hospice has delivered specialised care to more than 750 children and supported 1,000 families to create long-lasting memories.

In the past three years, we’ve focused our efforts on one charity a year chosen by a vote among all colleagues. This year all fundraising events will benefit Acorns’ invaluable care and services for children and their families.

We raised £763 for Macmillian Cancer Support in 2023!

Last year, a leading cancer charity, ‘Macmillan Cancer Support’, attracted the most votes from colleagues.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides physical, financial and emotional support to people affected by cancer through its expert nurses, information and support services, an online community, welfare advice and financial grants.

In Birmingham and the Black Country alone, around 11,260 people are, on average, diagnosed with cancer each year, and Macmillan aims to do whatever it takes to help people affected by cancer.

In previous years, we raised an amazing total of just over £1,000 for our ‘Charity of the Year’, and this year we’ll be aiming to at least match that impressive sum through raffles, coffee mornings and a host of other fundraising events.
