As construction on a new tram line hits a major milestone this week, West Midlands Metro is inviting local residents to apply for a variety of new roles created by the expansion of the region’s network.
With overnight tram testing now underway on sections of the Birmingham Eastside extension, the launch of services to Millennium Point is fast approaching and the Metro is ramping up its recruitment drive to support this next phase of growth.
Sophie Allison, Metro’s Managing Director, shared: “These are exciting times for our organisation as we continue to grow, as with all our recruitment campaigns, we are keen to hear from people who live locally with the skills and experience needed to help us take our services to the next level.”
Over the next few months, Metro is looking to fill a wide range of roles across the network, from driver/customer service representatives to maintenance technicians and infrastructure engineers while working with partners to connect communities and deliver sustainable services across the region.
Additional opportunities include rail expansion project leaders, senior rail technicians, and apprenticeships across a variety of departments.
A full list of current vacancies, together with details on how to apply, can be found on the Metro’s dedicated recruitment webpage, which can be found here.
“Successful candidates can look forward to competitive salaries, excellent training and career development opportunities, and a wide range of benefits as part of a diverse and friendly team,” Sophie added.
The latest recruitment drive comes as the Metro works in partnership with the Midland Metro Alliance which is delivering both the Birmingham Eastside and Black Country extensions as part of a multi-million-pound transport investment programme.
Over the next few weeks, testing and commissioning will be taking place between Lower Bull Street and a new temporary tram terminus at Millennium Point. While the overnight work will not disrupt existing services, members of the public are advised to pay extra attention to their surrounding and stay alert around testing areas.
