Metro Price Update - 2026

Metro fare changes to reinvest in your network

From 2 January 2026, we will be updating our fares to ensure we can continue to invest in our growing network and deliver the high levels of service our customers rely upon.

Over recent years, fare changes have been consistently lower than inflation, reflecting our commitment to keeping travel affordable. At the same time, we have focused on offering a wide ticket range that provides convenient and cost‑effective options for all journey types.

As we prepare to serve more communities with the expansion of our network, it has become necessary to adjust fares to reflect rising costs, which we have always worked hard to minimise for our customers.

The table below provides the new prices of tickets and passes which include a Metro element:

To ensure that we can continue to provide the service that our customers rely upon and as we prepare to serve even more communities with the opening of more stops during the next year, it has become necessary to adjust our fares to reflect the growing costs that we have always done our best not to pass on to our customers.
Since 2023, fare increases have been consistently below inflation, helping to keep Metro travel affordable compared to other transport modes.

The table below provides a summary of the changes to Metro only tickets. An increase of between 20 and 70 pence has been applied to single and day fares. Our revised prices still provide great value for our customers, with season tickets providing customers with travel from as little as £1.50 per day. On average, the cost to travel by tram has increased by 46 pence per day with our regular travellers seeing an even smaller increase of less than 25 pence per day.

While fares are increasing, Metro continues to offer convenient, cost‑effective travel across an expanding network. Every ticket purchased helps fund further improvements and ensures the Metro remains sustainable for the future.

Like all other transport operators, we’ve seen a significant increase in costs in recent years, which means that current ticket prices are unsustainable. After freezing ticket prices in 2023, and a below-inflation increase in 2024 and 2025, we have done all that we can to adsorb the increases to our operating costs during this time.
The changes applied to our fares from January will help us to continue our ambitious programme of service enhancements as we look forward to connecting even more communities with the opening of our new stops during the next twelve months.

Revenue from ticket sales is reinvested directly into the Metro. In recent years, more than £2.5bn has been invested in new connections and destinations across Birmingham and the Black Country, and further enhancements are planned.
