West Midlands Metro customers are in for a musical treat this August Bank Holiday weekend, as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s (CBSO) world-renowned Music Director steps aboard our trams once again for a special live performance.
Kazuki Yamada, one of the most sought-after conductors on the international stage, will perform a piano soundtrack for passengers travelling on the tram, completely free of charge. It’ll be the second time Kazuki has brought his talent aboard Metro, following a hugely popular performance back in 2024 that turned an ordinary commute into an unexpected concert.
Whether you’re travelling into the city, heading to Wolverhampton, or simply looking for a unique way to spend part of your day, you could find yourself enjoying a live piano performance as Kazuki Yamada provides a special musical soundtrack throughout the journey.
This year’s performance will take place on board the tram on Saturday 29 August, departing Brindleyplace Tram Stop at 11:29 am, as part of CBSO in the City, a weekend of free musical moments across Birmingham’s trams, shopping centres, stations and public spaces, running from Thursday 27 to Monday 31 August.
The event builds on our ongoing partnership with the CBSO, which has offered discounted travel to concertgoers and performers over the past year.
Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, said: “Our partnership with the CBSO has been a real success, giving customers and performers easier access to world‑class music across the region.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Kazuki back on board, and we’re sure his performance will make for a memorable journey for anyone travelling with us.”
