As part of Metro Moments, our new initiative celebrating the everyday journeys that shape people’s lives, we’re kicking things off with the story of Holly and Sean. When the couple were planning their wedding, they wanted to do things a little differently. Instead of traditional wedding cars, they thought about the tram they caught every week and wondered if it could be part of their big day too.
So, they got in touch with the West Midlands Metro team to ask about travelling by tram for their wedding. It made sense. The tram was the easiest and most affordable way to get all their guests from the ceremony in Edgbaston Village to the reception at Town Hall.
Ahead of the big day, the team met with Holly and Sean to plan the journey and talk through the details.
Then the day arrived. The pair boarded the tram in full wedding attire, surrounded by family and friends, giving passengers and Metro colleagues alike a sight to remember. For many guests, it was their first-ever tram journey, and by the end, Metro had a few new fans.
The journey quickly became one of the highlights of the day, with guests enjoying the unique experience and the newlyweds capturing some unforgettable photographs along the way.
This is exactly the kind of story we hoped Metro Moments would shine a light on. From an everyday commute to a wedding carriage, this story shows there are loads more moments like this out there, and that Metro plays a bigger part in people’s lives than we often realise.
The team marked the occasion with a special on-board announcement, congratulatory signage, and presented the newlyweds with a selection of Metro merchandise as a keepsake of their special day.

Holly told us: “I just wanted to say a big thank you to you both and the team on the day for all of your arrangements and hard work leading up to, and the day of our wedding! We and all of the guests loved the signage and announcements and having a dedicated tram really made the day! Our guests loved the tram despite the weather! Huge thank you to you all again!”
From the first enquiry and planning meeting to the final journey, the occasion was a wonderful example of how Metro connects people to places, communities and life’s most important and memorable moments.
Everyone at West Midlands Metro would like to congratulate Holly and Sean and wish them a lifetime of happiness, laughter and many more tram journeys together.
This is just the first of many Metro Moments we’ll be sharing over the coming months, from family days out and first commutes to milestone moments, long-standing traditions, and the small memorable journeys that made someone smile.
