Trams are set to return to the Wolverhampton St George’s stop next week as West Midlands Metro prepares for the launch of services to Birmingham Eastside extension.
The stop has been temporarily closed to enable signalling upgrades and other improvement works following the opening of Wolverhampton Station in 2023.
From Monday, 17th November, customers will be able to choose between Wolverhampton St George’s and Wolverhampton Station when planning their journey, thanks to a new timetable offering alternate services between the two stops.
Anthony Stanley, the Metro’s Head of Operations and Safety, explained: “The new timetable will see alternate services between the two stops and marks another important milestone in our journey towards future expansion.
“With services to Millennium Point on the Birmingham Eastside extension fast approaching, reopening St George’s helps lay the groundwork for even more stops and evolving travel patterns.”
As well as making tram travel to and from Wolverhampton even more convenient, the move also completes a major upgrade to the existing Metro network.
“These enhancements to infrastructure and services reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing car dependency across the region and we’re really looking forward to welcoming customers back to St George’s next week,” Anthony added.
