West Midlands Metro is inviting customers and residents to take part in a new survey as preparations continue for the opening of a new tram line to Dudley in 2026. The extension represents a major milestone for Metro, transforming the service from a single line into a fully connected, multi‑route tram network.
When the Dudley line opens, Metro will operate regular, frequent services between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Dudley, and Dudley and Wolverhampton, giving customers more choice and flexibility when travelling across the region.
As the network expands, ensuring customers can easily and confidently identify the correct tram for their journey becomes increasingly important. To support this, West Midlands Metro is developing a set of clear and intuitive route identifiers and is now seeking public feedback on the options being considered.
The online survey includes visuals demonstrating proposed route identifier options, showing how different approaches could appear on trams, platforms, and customer information. These include examples such as colour‑coded routes, names or symbols, numbered or lettered services, and combined approaches designed to improve clarity and accessibility.
Customers are encouraged to review the visuals and share their views on which option or options would deliver the best possible customer experience.
The survey takes approximately 4–5 minutes to complete. As a thank you for taking part, all completed entries will be eligible to enter a prize draw to win one of three £50 Amazon vouchers.
The survey closes at 5pm on Tuesday 5 May.
Public feedback will play a key role in shaping how Metro services are presented as the network grows, helping to ensure the expanded system is easy to use, clearly understood, and fit for the future.
