Following a comprehensive fares review, the cost of all fares on the West Midlands Metro network will increase from January 2, 2026.
The cost of a single ticket, one of the most popular options, will rise by 20p to £2.50, while a zone 1–4 peak time day ticket will increase by 70p to £7.60. A monthly direct debit pass, which allows unlimited travel across the network, will move from £82 to £90.20.
Metro’s Head of Commercial, Michael Reading-Skilton, said: “The decision to increase fares is never taken lightly, but these modest price rises will help us to meet increased running costs while ensuring the future sustainability of the Metro.
“The past few years have seen massive investment in the region’s tram network as we prepare to connect even more communities across Birmingham and the Black Country, and we would like to assure customers that revenue from ticket sales will continue to be reinvested into further service enhancements.”
The increase follows a freeze in ticket prices immediately after the Covid pandemic and below inflation price rises since 2023.
“The tram continues to offer excellent value for money when compared to other modes of transport. Furthermore, nearly one in five people who use the tram with a concessionary pass will be unaffected by these changes,” Michael added.
