Metro Partners with British Junior Open

Squash fans will have the chance to see the stars of the future in action next month when the British Junior Open gets underway at venues across the West Midlands, and the region’s tram network has teamed up with organisers to offer visitors and participants the opportunity to explore the city.

Attracting around 700+ young players from around the UK and across the world, the competition runs from January 2 – 6, 2026, and is expected to attract thousands of spectators, all of whom will be able to benefit from discounted Metro fares.

One of the tournament venues, the University of Birmingham, is just a short walk from tram stops, making the Metro a convenient and sustainable way to travel between matches and to explore Birmingham’s attractions, restaurants, and cultural hotspots.

Elizabeth Cole, Marketing and Communications Manager at West Midlands Metro, commented: “As part of our new partnership with the competition organisers, anyone with a ticket to one of the world’s most prestigious junior squash championships can enjoy 15 per cent off the cost of a Zone 1–4-day ticket.

“We’re delighted to support this fantastic tournament, the young people taking part, and local sports facilities hosting matches and doing so much to raise the profile of Birmingham and the surrounding areas.”

Mike Edwards, Head of Squash & Racquetball, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with West Midlands Metro as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alpha Bravo Construction British Junior Open. With more than 700 competitors from 63 nations and two all‑glass show courts the only event in Europe to offer this it’s set to be a truly exceptional week for squash here in Birmingham.”
