West Midlands Metro’s Managing Director Sophie Allison scooped a prestigious accolade at the Global Light Rail Awards at Battersea Arts Centre on Wednesday 7 October.
She was presented with the Geoffrey Claydon Judges’ Special Award for her inspiring leadership and commitment to both colleagues and customers as the network expands.
On receiving the Special Award, Sophie said: “This award came as a huge surprise for me personally, but it really reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire Metro team.”
Revenue Supervisor Matthew Brittain was also named Employee of the Year for his work on the introduction of the Buy Before You Board ticketing system.
Sophie added: “The fact that Matthew also won the Employee of the Year title reflects the wealth of talent we have here in the West Midlands.”
Metro was also Highly Commended in the UK Operator of the Year category.
The recognition follows the opening of the extension to Millennium Point and significant investment across the network.
