shortlisted for five Global Light Rail Awards,

West Midlands Metro is on track for a handful of prestigious accolades at a high-profile industry event later this year.

The growing tram network has been shortlisted in no less than five different categories at the light rail sector’s equivalent of the ‘Oscars’.

The annual Global Light Rail Awards will be presented at the Battersea Arts Centre in London on 7 October. The midlands network is hoping to build on last year’s success, when it won Most Improved System.

This year, Metro is among the frontrunners for Operator of the Year and has also been shortlisted for the Significant Safety Initiative.

Two members of the Metro team are also in line for individual accolades. Revenue Supervisor Matthew Brittain is nominated for Employee of the Year, while Dale Bayliss, Infrastructure Permanent Way Team Leader, is hoping to be named Rising Star. Metro’s Learning and Development Team has also been shortlisted for Team of the Year.

Sophie Allison, Metro’s Managing Director, commented: “We’re thrilled to be so well represented at these high-profile awards that celebrate excellence across the light rail sector.

“As we look forward to launching services to new destinations, including Dudley, this recognition reflects the continued commitment and dedication of the entire Metro team in delivering a safe and reliable service for customers.”
