Tram travel offer extended for hospital patients and staff

Trial renewed - WMM & BWCH

A trial that’s enabled patients and their families to enjoy discounted tram travel to Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital is set to continue for a further three months.

The offer was initially launched in April, and since then staff and families have benefited from up to 15 per cent off the cost of trips to the UK’s leading specialist paediatric centre.

Discount applies to fares covering all Metro zones and a host of ticket options, including weekly and monthly passes.

Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, explained: “Over the past few months, the deal has proved to be beneficial with patients, their families and staff who can also take advantage of the discount.

“We understand that hospital visits can be stressful for families, so we’re pleased to offer a little help by providing them with convenient and more affordable travel options to make things a little easier.

“At the same time, we want to recognise the dedication of staff at the hospital, and we’re delighted that so many of them are choosing the tram to get to and from work and hope that even more will take advantage of this offer.”

The Metro’s Bull Street stop is just a short walk from the hospital, and by taking the tram, patients, visitors and staff can also avoid the hassle and expense of finding a place to leave their car by taking advantage of over 700 Park and Ride spaces across the Metro network.

To access the discount, patients and families can obtain the QR code in the hospitals, which can be scanned to generate an exclusive code for use on the MyMetro app. Hospital staff can find the codes through the hospital’s internal communications channels.
