West Midlands Metro earns Safer Tram Stop Accreditation

West Midlands Metro Earns Safer Tram Stop Accreditation

West Midlands Metro earns Safer Tram Stop Accreditation

West Midlands Metro is thrilled to announce that 31 of our current 33 stops on the network have been granted the esteemed Safer Tram Stop accreditation. This prestigious recognition is handed by Secured by Design, an official Police security initiative dedicated to ensuring safety in light rail systems throughout the United Kingdom.

These accreditations underscore the stringent safety and security measures implemented by Metro at all trams stops along the network, spanning from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. They also commend the design features and preventive measures deployed to deter criminal activity, including comprehensive CCTV coverage, well-lit environments to enhance visibility, clearly defined boundaries, anti-vandal measures, and prominent signage. All these efforts aim to prevent anti-social behaviour and ensure the safety of all passengers using the Metro.

Tom Rowe, the Security & Insurance Claims Officer at WMM, emphasized Metro’s unwavering commitment to public safety, stating, “The safety and security of every passenger is paramount to us. With this Safer Tram Stop accreditation, passengers that rely on our network every day can be assured that our tram stops meet rigorous design standards and are safe and secure for their journeys.”

The recently opened extension at Piper’s Row and Wolverhampton Rail station has been constructed to adhere to the same critical safety and design standards as the existing stops. Currently, it is undergoing the same stringent approval process to obtain the Safer Tram Stop safety recognition. Midland Metro’s goal is that all Metro tram stops will be accredited with this safety recognition.

Covering over 15 miles, WMM’s extensive network connects diverse communities from Wolverhampton to historic areas like the Jewellery Quarter and West Bromwich before reaching Birmingham. Serving as a vital transportation link between these cities, the Metro prioritizes safety, reliability, and sustainability for all commuters.

As the network continues to expand to new regions, its unwavering focus and commitment to safety remain at the forefront as Metro continues to provide a safe and secure, reliable, and sustainable service to the people who rely on the service every day.

All individual Safer Tram Stop accreditation certificates are clearly displayed at each tram stop for customers to view.
